Common questions

Why don't the shares look like an even division?

When a total can't divide evenly into whole cents, one person is given the leftover cent or two. That is deliberate: it means the shares always add up to the bill exactly.

What does "tip is based on" change?

Whether the tip percentage is applied to the pre-tax subtotal or to the tax-inclusive total. Both are common; pick whichever your table uses.

Why does rounding up collect more than the bill?

Because that's what rounding up does. The app shows the surplus on its own line as "extra from rounding up" so you can see exactly how much extra is going on the table.

Can I pin what one person owes?

Turn on "Uneven split" and type an amount in that person's "Exact $" field. Everyone else divides whatever is left. The app warns you if the pinned amounts overshoot the bill or leave part of it unpaid.

Where did the Premium upgrade go?

It was removed in version 2.0. It never unlocked any features. Everything in the app is free.

Privacy policy

EZ Bill Split does not collect any data.

The app has no account system and makes no network requests. Bills, names, saved splits and preferences are stored only on your device and are never transmitted anywhere. There is no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.

Because nothing is collected, there is nothing for us to share, sell, or hand over.
